Register now for the Wine Industry Outlook Conference – October 2014
The Winemakers’ Federation of Australia (WFA) is holding their Outlook Conference on 1-2 October 2014 at the Hilton Hotel in Adelaide, South Australia.
This year’s theme is “Taking Charge of Our Future” and will look at how best to grow and seize the demand opportunity for Australian wine, as well as improving the profitability and sustainability of grape and wine supply. Day 1 will have a predominantly demand focus while Day 2 will look at supply issues. It will also encompass the release of WFA’s 2014 Vintage Report.

Inaugural Wine Grape Growers’ Summit – June 2014
The Wine Grape Council of SA (WGCSA) is launching its inaugural Wine Grape Growers’ Summit on 27 June 2014 at Adelaide Oval, South Australia.
The seminar will provide important supply and demand information leading into Vintage 2015. It will include new research on how wineries see the future and practical information on new varieties, emerging vineyard technologies and building flexibility and scale into vineyard management.

New viticulture resource for independent grapegrowers
Australia’s Wine Business Magazine (WBM) is launching a regular Viticulture section from the July 2014 issue. It will include a range of case studies, expert opinions, interviews, product information and more, over sixteen pages each month.

SAGA Annual Industry Day – July 2014
The South Australian Groundsprayers Association (SAGA) is conducting their annual industry day on 4 July 2014 at the Glenelg Football Club in Adelaide, South Australia. The theme is “Life Beyond Glyphosate” and will look at:
- the current situation with glyphosate resistance in Australia
- options for prolonging the life of glyphosate
- some futuristic ways of controlling weeds

Winegrapes Database Freely Available
The University of Adelaide’s Wine Economics Research Centre has made their Database of Regional, National and Global Winegrape Bearing Areas by Variety (2000-2010) freely available.
The data has been collected from 45 countries and enables searchers to identify which winegrape varieties are grown where.
The e-book version can be downloaded from their website or hard copies can be ordered. A report summarising the data is also available.

New MetEye weather service from BoM
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has launched a new online weather service called MetEye.
MetEye’s innovation is in providing a whole new way to view local weather, giving the latest weather and forecasts out to 7 days ahead, for any location in Australia. It provides easy to read graphical views of the latest information on rainfall, temperatures, storms, humidity, wind and wave forecasts, summarised on a single page.

2014 Australian Farmer of the Year Awards – Now Open!
Nominations are now open for the 2014 Australian Farmer of the Year Awards.
The awards recognise professional and innovative Australian farmers and farming families. There are 11 award categories, with winners from each category qualifying for the overall Australian Farmer of the Year award. Farmers can nominate themselves or be nominated by a third party.
Hosted by the Kondinin Group and ABC Rural, the dinner and award ceremony will be held on 10 September 2014 at The Langham Hotel, Melbourne, Victoria.
Closing date for nominations is 27 June 2014.

APVMA releases Fenthion review for final consultation
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) have released its preliminary review findings report for the review of the insecticide fenthion. There will be a three month consultation period on these findings, ending 22 August 2014.

Renewable Energy Funding Program opportunity for growers
A solar energy provider is seeking a small group of growers who are interested in participating in a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) pilot program.
A third party financing agent will contribute the upfront capital investment and the grower will purchase the power generated by the system at a lower, set price. Following the end of the agreement period, the grower then has several flexible options for moving forward.
